Luxury Literacy - Live Lavishly, Spend Thoughtfully

When you view the world through the eyes of an appraiser it changes the way you buy
everything. From the couch you sit on to the handbag you hold, the plates you eat on or the car you drive. Everything has a value, but does that value hold or tank? That is the essential question.

When you know the answer it changes your life and I mean that quite literally. Here’s a scenario to consider and one we’ve seen over and over in our work.

Best case: You buy a home and furnish it. You buy furniture, art and lighting with Future Value in mind. You take your time to pick pieces made by important or up and coming artists and designers, from famous makers or time-tested brands, and find character pieces from estate sales or auctions. When it comes time to sell you recover a majority of your spending and now you’re ready to shop again. These hearty returns give you command over your future. Along the way you develop newfound appreciations so that with each new purchase you’re a little smarter. Smarter translates into more... more money, more choices and more joy. Before you realize it, you’ve become a collector or connoisseur or simply an appreciator who is educated on both beauty and value.

Worst case: Now take your neighbor. He buys a house and purchases furniture, art and lighting without the slightest concern for returns. He likes the slick new, high-styled pieces, decorative “art” and lamps “in the style” of iconic makers. He spends big on retail, believing that nice, high quality things are all he has to know. When it comes time to sell them, they can return as little as 10 - 30 cents on the dollar and the majority of his money is lost.

The two of you do the exact same thing only differently.
One scenario preserves your assets while the other decimates your bottom line.

That’s why we created Luxury Literacy, to guide you into the savvy purchasing of luxury goods, art, design, furnishings and collectables. And when it comes time to sell, we do that too. We are your brain trust of time-tested scholars, experts, and appraisers. So shop to your heart’s content. We’ll help you do it with intelligence. True luxury is living with the comfort you feel when you love what you have, have what you need, and know the value of all of it.
